Now Available via HTTPS! / Voice Input / Additional Targum Features and more

 בס"ד

ט ניסן, תשפ"ב

Recent updates on basehasefer.com include the following:

The web site is now available via HTTPS / SSL and is fully secure.

I hope that prior to this, no one was using our search features to check if the gematria of their credit card number was found in פרשת האזינו, but in either case, the https address will make our users feel more secure and many modern web browsers are making things more difficult for sites that use plain old http.

Voice input is available for any search bar that requires entry of Hebrew text.

Clicking on the new microphone icon on the right side of the search bar will enable voice input of Hebrew text via your computer's microphone.  This is only guaranteed to work on the Chrome browser for now and might not work on others.  Upon clicking the icon, speak clearly in Hebrew (it understands Israeli pronunciation best) and the text will appear in the search bar.  Once you pause your speech, the microphone will automatically turn off.  The first time you use this feature, your web browser will ask you to allow access to your computer's microphone.

Now Targum Onkelos content is available on the Frequency Viewer, Object Cloud and Text Comparator features.

To see this in action for the Frequency Viewer, do the following:

1) Select תרגום from the Source dropdown at the top of the screen
2) For best results, make sure only Torah is selected from the sefer filter in the search settings on the right side of the screen
3) Click the Update button
4) Notice that the results are now pertinent to the language of the Targum

To see Targum content in the Object Cloud viewer, do the following:

Select תרגום from the Source dropdown at the top of the screen
Click the SELECT SECTIONS button to select a section or sections of Tanach to search and then click the Update button.

You will notice that the resulting word cloud will contain the Aramaic of the Targum.

To compare two sections of Targum Onkelos on the Chumash in Text Comparator, do the following:

1) Select תרגום from the Source dropdown at the top of the screen
2) For best results, make sure only Torah is selected from the sefer filter in the search settings on the right side of the screen
3) From the Sort by Frequency dropdown, pick by selected sefarim
4) Click the Update button
5) Notice that the results are now pertinent to the language of the Targum
6) To investigate further, search for one of the top results by copying and pasting the word into the search bar at the top of the screen and then clicking the search button
7) You will now see the limited number of times the word appears in the Targum as pertinent to the sections of Chumash you are comparing

Lastly, information appearing in grids can now be sorted in various ways for many columns by clicking on columns headers.

When hovering over sortable column headers, a hand-shaped mouse pointer will appear.  Clicking once will sort the rows according to that column in ascending order. Clicking again will sort the rows in descending order.  Clicking once more will return the rows to their original sort order as specified in the search settings on the right side of the screen.  Sortable columns can be used for best effect when the option to Show All Results is selected at the bottom-left corner of the grid.

Here's one example for the search results grid in a case where the search returned all of the פסוקים in שיר השירים and one clicks the statistics column for number of letters in the פסוק to sort by ascending order:

Another example shows what happens when one displays the grid for the Parsha Viewer and one clicks the פסוקים column to sort all פרשיות פתוחות\סתומות in Tanach by descending
order:

חג כשר ושמח!
